I have to resume my physical therapy sessions because I have some minor injuries in my left shoulder. My therapist asked me to make a quick gift for some relatives who are visiting for Christmas. So, I had to return to the workshop and craft something in a hurry.
I used walnut, purpleheart, padauk, hard maple, cherry, and yellow heart to make her a cutting board that measures about 11″ x 15″. I also made some butter boards from the scrap box while I was working on it. They were 6″ x 16″ at first, but I didn’t like how they looked. After cutting them to 10 1/2″ in length, I used the leftover pieces to make trivets. I was pleased with the results.
After the tedious process of sanding the boards and adding the feet to the bottom, I took them into the house for their bath in food-grade mineral oil. They soaked in the oil bath for 45 minutes to allow the oil to penetrate fully into the wood.
