More End-Grain Cutting Boards for GACE

I built 2 extra boards to take to the GACE Fall Conference in Augusta, Ga. One of these boards is for one of the GACE board members. The Board member's board has a strip of Canarywood along with Walnut, Padauk, Cherry, Hard Maple, Ambrosia Maple and Purple Heart.

Once I have finished flattening and sanding the boards, I cut in the juice groove and cut the ends at 15° to make them easier to grab and pick up. A 1/4-inch round-over is applied to the edges of the board to remove sharp edges and corners. I then give them a quick sanding to smooth out the rough edges from the extra cuts and grooves.

The boards then take a 30-minute bath in food-safe mineral oil to allow time for the oil to soak in thoroughly. A coat of my special board butter is then hand rubbed onto the board to help seal the boards and prevent food from contaminating the boards.
